Citing Commitment to Lower Cost of Caregiving, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC Endorses Will Lawrence for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District

WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of community organizer and affordability champion Will Lawrence in his bid to represent Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. Electing a Democratic House majority is an essential first step to passing these policies to reduce the cost of caregiving. CFFE PAC has a field office in the district and plans to spend millions of dollars across Michigan to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, including Will Lawrence. That includes an initial $1.7 investment in field organizing programs with our partners at LCV Victory Fund and Conservation Voters of Michigan PAC.

Will Lawrence has spent more than a decade organizing his community and fighting to lower costs for working families. Raised and rooted in the Lansing area, Lawrence launched and led organizations focused on expanding access to affordable housing and clean energy. That focus on affordability has shaped his campaign for Congress, where he has made lowering the cost of caregiving central to his platform. Will understands that families are facing impossible choices between caring for their loved ones and earning a paycheck, and he’ll fight for policies that support families at every stage of their lives.

Will has put that commitment into action throughout his campaign. When SNAP benefits lapsed for Michiganders, Lawrence hosted a 30-hour food drive outside his Republican opponent Rep. Tom Barrett’s office and gathered 5,000 meals for the Greater Lansing Food Bank. When Barrett voted to roll back the Affordable Care Act, Lawrence held a fundraiser that retired $130,000 in local medical debt. And because Barrett has not held an in-person town hall since taking office, Lawrence held an eight-hour “Ask Me Anything” outside Barrett’s office, where voters could ask him questions directly.

In Congress, Barrett has backed policies that threaten the financial security of the working families Lawrence has made central to his campaign. Barrett voted for the Republican tax law, which is expected to leave nearly 23,000 people in MI-07 without health coverage while putting food assistance at risk for families who rely on SNAP. Another 22,000 MI-07 residents are expected to lose health insurance after Barrett voted against extending Affordable Care Act tax credits that helped families afford care. Barrett also backed the Trump administration’s tariff policies, which have driven up costs for Michigan families. And as families face higher energy bills, Barrett continues to support President Trump’s war in Iran.

Across Michigan, families are struggling with the rising costs of child care, food, health care, housing and other necessities. 85% of Michiganders say the cost of living is higher than it was a year ago, and the economy and affordability remain their top concern. More than half of Michiganders aged 50 and older are also very concerned about the cost of long-term care. Michigan families deserve leaders like Will, who are focused on addressing these challenges and making everyday life more affordable.
