Citing Commitment to Lower Cost of Caregiving, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC Endorses Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of Sherrod Brown in his bid to represent Ohio in the United States Senate, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. Securing a Democratic Senate majority is an essential first step to passing these policies to reduce the cost of caregiving. CFFE PAC has four field offices in Ohio and plans to spend millions of dollars across the state to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, including Sherrod Brown.

“All across Ohio, I hear the same thing: child care is too expensive and too hard to find for Ohio families,” said Sherrod Brown. “Ohioans should never have to choose between affording care for their family members and putting food on the table. Child care, elder and disability care, and paid leave are essential infrastructure that allow people to work and families to thrive. That’s what leaders should be focused on, and that’s what I’ll fight for every day in the Senate.”

Throughout his career in public service, Sherrod Brown has been a champion for Ohio’s working families. He has consistently fought to ensure workers have access to paid leave, including cosponsoring the FAMILY Act to establish a national paid family and medical leave program and backed the Healthy Families Act to guarantee workers access to earned paid sick days. Brown also fought to lower the cost of prescription drugs and cap insulin costs for Medicare recipients, expanded the Child Tax Credit that helped lift millions of children out of poverty, and secured historic investments in Ohio’s manufacturing and infrastructure. Brown has also worked to protect Social Security and Medicare, expand access to affordable child care, and create good-paying jobs that allow families to thrive. In the Senate, he will continue fighting to lower costs, strengthen the middle class, and build an economy that works for Ohio families.

In contrast, Brown’s opponent, Republican Bernie Moreno, has embraced an agenda that makes it harder for Ohio families to get ahead. Rather than fighting to make health care, child care, and everyday essentials more affordable, Moreno has backed policies that prioritize tax breaks for the wealthy and large corporations over investments in working families. He has also opposed efforts to lower prescription drug costs, including Medicare’s ability to negotiate lower drug prices and caps on insulin costs for seniors. At a time when Ohio families are looking for relief from rising costs, Moreno has consistently sided with special interests instead of the people he represents.

Across Ohio, voters are looking for kitchen-table economic solutions that lower the cost of caregiving and make life more affordable for working families. According to AARP, 84% of Ohio voters age 50+ say a candidate’s position on controlling health care costs will influence their vote, underscoring the importance of re-electing leaders like Sherrod Brown who have consistently fought to lower costs, create good-paying jobs, and build an economy that works for Ohio families.

Separate from its electoral work, CFFE PAC’s sister organization, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy’s Affordable Ohio program, focused on holding elected officials accountable when they fail to meet the needs of working families and urging them to change course. Affordable Ohio ran a field program that spoke with thousands of Ohioans about the high cost of living and the leaders who have failed to make life more affordable.
