Citing Commitment to Lower Cost of Caregiving, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC Endorses Sarah Trone Garriott for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District

WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of Iowa State Senator Sarah Trone Garriott in her bid to represent Iowa's 3rd congressional district, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. Electing a Democratic House majority is an essential first step to passing these policies to reduce the cost of caregiving. CFFE PAC has nine field offices open across Iowa and plans to spend millions of dollars to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, including Sarah Trone Garriott.

Throughout her career in public service, Trone Garriott has fought to make life more affordable for Iowa families. As a state senator, she championed paid family leave, quality child care, and expanded access to health care. She has also worked across the aisle to deliver tax relief for Iowans, backed legislation to lower prescription drug costs and cap insulin prices, and pushed to protect Social Security survivor benefits for children in foster care. Trone Garriott will bring that same commitment to Washington, fighting to make caregiving more affordable, restore Medicaid funding, lower health care costs, and expand tax credits for working families.

In contrast, Trone Garriott’s opponent, Republican Rep. Zach Nunn, has repeatedly backed policies that raise costs for Iowa families. Nunn voted for the Republican tax bill that cut Medicaid and nutrition assistance, putting rural hospitals, health coverage, and food assistance at risk across the state. He also backed Trump’s tariffs, which have driven up prices, hurt Iowa farmers, and squeezed small businesses. Instead of lowering costs, Nunn has repeatedly put his party’s agenda ahead of the Iowans he was elected to serve.

Across Iowa, families are paying more for groceries, health care, utilities, and caregiving. More than half of Iowans say their ability to meet household financial needs has gotten worse in the past year, and 59% believe Congress could be doing more to lower the cost of living. Iowans need a representative like Sarah Trone Garriott, who will fight to lower the costs of child care, health care, and elder care to help ease the financial burden for working families.

Separate from its electoral work, CFFE PAC’s sister organization, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy, launched Affordable Iowa last year to hold Reps. Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks accountable for siding with billionaires over the families they were elected to serve and urging them to change course. Affordable Iowa ran a major paid media campaign, elevating the stories of local families to urge officials to reverse course and focus on making life more affordable.
