Citing Commitment to Lower Cost of Caregiving, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC Endorses Lindsay James for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District

WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of Iowa State Representative Lindsay James in her bid to represent Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. Electing a Democratic House majority is an essential first step to passing these policies to reduce the cost of care. CFFE PAC has nine field offices open across the state and plans to spend millions of dollars to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, including Lindsay James.

Throughout her career in public service, Lindsay James has worked to make life more affordable and expand opportunities for Iowa families. As a state representative, James has championed legislation to strengthen Iowa’s child care system, including efforts to increase support for child care providers and help more families afford care. She has also pushed to improve wages for home health aides who provide critical care to Iowans on Medicaid. In Congress, James will build on that record by fighting to lower health care and child care costs, strengthen support for caregivers and make it easier for working families across Iowa to get ahead.

In contrast, James’ opponent, former State Rep. and lobbyist Joe Mitchell, has made clear that he would be a reliable ally for President Trump’s agenda in Congress. Mitchell previously served in his administration and is backed by the same members who ushered in the disastrous legislation that ripped away rural health care and nutrition assistance from hundreds of thousands of Iowans. During his time in the Iowa House, Mitchell exacerbated an already stretched-thin system, supporting legislation that increased the number of children child care staff could supervise at once. An outside-the-district millionaire who believes life is “affordable again,” Joe Mitchell is the wrong choice for Iowa families.

Across Iowa, voters are looking for leaders who will tackle rising costs and deliver kitchen-table economic solutions for working families. A June 2026 statewide poll found that inflation and the economy ranked as Iowans’ top issue, underscoring the need to send leaders like Lindsay James to the U.S. House to fight to lower costs and make life more affordable for working families.

Separate from its electoral work, CFFE PAC’s sister organization, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy, launched Affordable Iowa last year to hold Iowa lawmakers accountable for siding with billionaires over the families they were elected to serve. Affordable Iowa ran a major paid media campaign, elevating the stories of local families to urge officials to reverse course and focus on making life more affordable.
