WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of Marine veteran JoAnna Mendoza in her bid to represent Arizona’s 6th Congressional District, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. Electing a Democratic House majority is an essential first step to passing these policies to reduce the cost of caregiving. CFFE PAC is spending millions of dollars this cycle across the country to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, including JoAnna Mendoza.

“JoAnna Mendoza has spent her life answering the call to serve, and she’ll bring that same commitment to Southern Arizona families in Congress,” said Sondra Goldschein, Executive Director of the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC. “From growing up in a family that struggled to make ends meet to serving 20 years in the military and raising her son as a single mom, JoAnna knows firsthand the challenges working families face. She understands what it means to stretch every dollar while trying to give your children a better future. In Congress, she’ll fight to lower the cost of child care, health care and everyday necessities so that every family has the opportunity to get ahead.”

"As a single mom with an aging parent, I know firsthand how hard it can be to balance taking care of your family with making ends meet,” said JoAnna Mendoza. “Families across Southern Arizona are working hard, but too many are still struggling to get ahead. No one should have to worry about whether they can afford to care for the people they love. I'm running for Congress to lower costs and give working families a fair shot, and I'm proud to have the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC standing with me in that fight."

Enlisting in the military at just 17, JoAnna Mendoza spent 20 years in the Navy and Marine Corps serving her country. She later worked as a veterans service representative for former Congressman Tom O’Halleran, helping veterans navigate access to benefits and support, including health care and financial assistance. Growing up in a family that relied on Medicaid, Mendoza experienced firsthand how access to affordable health care can provide critical financial security. Now a single mother who is also navigating the needs of an aging parent, Mendoza lives the challenges of balancing caregiving responsibilities with the rising cost of everyday necessities. In Congress, she will fight to lower everyday costs, protect access to affordable health care, and make sure Southern Arizona families can afford to care for themselves and the people they love.

In contrast, Mendoza’s opponent, Republican Rep. Juan Ciscomani, voted for the 2025 Republican tax law, despite warnings about its impact on health care coverage for Arizona families. The law could cause between 38,000 and 190,000 Arizonans to lose Medicaid coverage, while changes to eligibility reviews could put coverage at risk for another 35,000 to 50,000 people. For Southern Arizona families already struggling with the rising costs of health care, groceries, and other necessities, these potential coverage losses could add to existing financial pressures.

Across Arizona, families are feeling the strain of rising costs, with housing, groceries, health care, and caregiving putting increasing pressure on household budgets. According to AARP's 2026 Arizona voter survey, 37% of Arizona voters rank rising prices and affordability among their top two voting issues, making it the most frequently cited issue overall. For Southern Arizona families, JoAnna Mendoza is focused on lowering costs and ensuring working families have the opportunity to not just survive but thrive.

The Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC works to elect candidates who believe all people should be able to afford to care for themselves and their loved ones. Since 2015, we have run some of the largest electoral programs in battleground states to support candidates that are fighting for policies like paid family and medical leave and quality, affordable child care, elder care and health care. We know how to effectively communicate about high costs and the economy in the way people actually think about it – emphasizing who is committed to lowering costs, and who isn’t. We use this insight to reach voters at the scale needed to have an impact, building support for candidates up and down the ballot who are committed to lowering the cost of caregiving.
