Citing Commitment to Lower Cost of Caregiving, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC Endorses Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of Abdul El-Sayed in his bid to become the Great Lakes State’s next U.S. senator, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. Securing a Democratic Senate majority is an essential first step to passing these policies to reduce the cost of care. CFFE PAC has five field offices in the state and plans to spend millions of dollars across Michigan to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, like Abdul El-Sayed. That includes an initial $1.7 investment in field organizing programs with our partners at LCV Victory Fund and Conservation Voters of Michigan PAC.

Abdul El-Sayed has dedicated his career to ensuring that Michiganders can care for themselves and their loved ones without risking financial ruin. As the leader of Detroit’s Health Department and Wayne County’s Department of Health, Human & Veterans Services, Abdul worked to ease the burden of rising costs on families. He spearheaded efforts to cancel medical debt and provide free glasses to children while advocating to expand access to affordable health care for every American. In the Senate, Abdul will build on that record by fighting for universal child care, lowering prescription drug costs, and making health care a human right so Michigan families can afford the care they need and have a government that puts their priorities first.

In contrast, Republican Mike Rogers has proudly supported policies that would make life more expensive for Michigan families. Rogers backed the Republican tax law that is expected to strip away health care from  700,000 Michiganders through Medicaid cuts while putting food assistance at risk for families who rely on SNAP. He has also supported Trump's trade wars, which have driven up the cost of everyday essentials, and has ignored the Iran war’s impact on rising fuel prices. Rather than helping families get ahead, Rogers has consistently sided with an agenda that raises costs while putting access to affordable living and health care at risk.

Across Michigan, families are struggling with the rising costs of housing, groceries, health care, child care, and caring for their aging loved ones. 85% of Michiganders say the cost of living is higher than it was a year ago, and the economy and affordability remain their top concern. More than half of Michiganders aged 50 and older are also very concerned about the cost of long-term care. Voters are looking for leaders who will take on these kitchen-table challenges by lowering the cost of living and making caregiving more affordable. These concerns underscore the need for leaders like Abdul, who will fight to expand economic opportunity, lower costs, protect access to health care, and help working families get ahead.
