Citing Commitment to Lower Cost of Caregiving, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC Endorses Christina Bohannan for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District

WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of former Iowa State Representative Christina Bohannan in her bid to represent Iowa's 1st Congressional District, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. Electing a Democratic House majority is an essential first step to passing these policies to reduce the cost of caregiving. CFFE PAC has nine field offices open across Iowa and plans to spend millions of dollars to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, including Christina Bohannan.

“Iowans can trust Christina Bohannan to tackle the affordability crisis because she has lived it,” said Sondra Goldschein, Executive Director of the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC.“Growing up in a rural Iowa town, her family’s health insurance was canceled after her father became sick with emphysema, forcing her family to choose between paying for his medicine and paying for other necessities. That experience drove her work in the Iowa House, where she fought to lower costs and help Iowa families get ahead. In Congress, she’ll help flip a critical seat and build a majority focused on lowering health care costs, creating good-paying jobs, and making it easier for working families like hers to get ahead.”

“If you work hard, you deserve not just to get by–you deserve to get ahead,” said Christina Bohannan. “While costs have been increasing for families in Iowa, Rep. Miller-Meeks has been taking her cues from party bosses backing health care cuts and reckless tariffs. I’m the daughter of a construction worker and a daycare provider. That’s why I support expanding the Child Care Tax Credit and Head Start, passing a nationwide paid family leave law to cover sick or aging relatives, and restoring the Medicaid cuts that have devastated Iowa families and rural health care access. We need a representative in Washington who will fight for Iowa families, not corporations and billionaires.”

Christina Bohannan knows firsthand the difficult decisions families must make when the cost of caring for a loved one is out of reach. Those experiences have shaped her commitment to lowering costs for working families. In Congress, Bohannan will fight to make prescription drugs more affordable, protect and expand Medicare, and prioritize rural health care access.

In contrast, Bohannan's opponent, Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, has repeatedly taken party-line votes that hurt her constituents instead of putting Iowa families first. Rather than fighting to make life more affordable for Iowans, Miller-Meeks supported tariffs that have skyrocketed prices for consumers, voted for the Republican tax bill that made deep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, and opposed legislation that lowers health care premiums for Iowa families. These positions have left Iowans poorer, sicker, and hungrier.

Across Iowa, voters are looking for leaders who will tackle the rising cost of living and make it easier to afford the care their families depend on. In a statewide 2026 poll, more than half of Iowans say their household financial situation has gotten worse in the past year, underscoring the need for leaders like Christina Bohannan who will fight to lower costs for working families.

Separate from its electoral work, CFFE PAC’s sister organization, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy, launched Affordable Iowa last year to hold Reps. Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks accountable for siding with billionaires over the families they were elected to serve and urging them to change course. Affordable Iowa ran a major paid media campaign, elevating the stories of local families to urge officials to reverse course and focus on making life more affordable.
