WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of commercial fisherman and former school superintendent Bill Hill in his bid to represent Alaska’s At-Large Congressional District, where he is challenging Republican Rep. Nick Begich in one of the country’s most closely watched House races.

This endorsement reflects CFFE PAC's commitment to electing candidates who will make life more affordable by tackling the crippling cost of caregiving through investments in affordable child and elder care and paid family and medical leave. CFFE PAC is spending millions of dollars this cycle across the country to elect candidates committed to lowering the cost of care, including Bill Hill.

“Bill Hill understands the unique financial pressures Alaska families face because he has spent his life working in the communities he is now running to represent,” said Sondra Goldschein, Executive Director of the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC. “As a fisherman, educator, small-business owner, and father, Bill knows how high costs of child care, health care, energy, and everyday necessities strain family budgets. He has made affordability a focus of his campaign and has committed to lowering costs so that working families can build their lives in Alaska.”

“Right now, Alaska has a representative in DC who's making it harder and harder to raise a family and care for the people we love. Nick Begich is voting to raise our costs and cut our healthcare while taking big tax breaks for himself," said Bill Hill. "The good news is: When Alaska's working families come together, we can make change. And that's exactly what we'll do on November 3.”

Bill Hill has spent decades serving communities across Alaska. He is now running for Congress with a focus on lowering child care, health care, housing, and energy costs to help Alaskans create a more affordable future.  Raised in the small village of Kokhanok, Hill began commercial fishing with his family as a child before building a 25-year career in education as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. As superintendent of the Bristol Bay Borough School District, Hill worked with neighboring districts to establish a regional career and technical education program that expanded pathways for students pursuing careers outside the traditional four-year college route. He was named Alaska Superintendent of the Year in 2023. His campaign carries that commitment to Alaska families forward, with a focus on making it easier to afford the care they need.

In contrast, Hill’s opponent, Republican Rep. Nick Begich, voted for the 2025 Republican tax law, which cuts health care and food assistance and is projected to leave approximately 35,000 Alaskans without health insurance. At a time when Alaskans are already stretched thin by high costs, Begich has backed policies that could put basic everyday necessities further out of reach.

Across Alaska, families are struggling with the high costs of housing, food, health care, child care, and other necessities. Thirty-seven percent of Alaska households do not earn enough to afford all of their basic expenses. The state is also facing a growing child care shortage, with an estimated 55% of Alaska children lacking reasonable access to care. Alaska families deserve leaders like Bill Hill, who will be focused on addressing these challenges and making everyday life more affordable.

The Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC works to elect candidates who believe all people should be able to afford to care for themselves and their loved ones. Since 2015, we have run some of the largest electoral programs in battleground states to support candidates that are fighting for policies like paid family and medical leave and quality, affordable child care, elder care and health care. We know how to effectively communicate about high costs and the economy in the way people actually think about it – emphasizing who is committed to lowering costs, and who isn’t. We use this insight to reach voters at the scale needed to have an impact, building support for candidates up and down the ballot who are committed to lowering the cost of caregiving.
