New Poll Shows New Hampshire Voters Support Fair Workplace Policies
From quality child care to paid family leave, NH voters want an economy that works for families
Concord, NH. – A new poll conducted by The Feldman Group shows that New Hampshire voters overwhelmingly support policies that will help both the state’s economy and families thrive. These policy preferences translate into support for candidates who want to build a family-friendly economy.
The poll, conducted in July 2016, found that 80 percent of the New Hampshire electorate supports increased access to affordable, quality child care, only 14 percent opposed. Policies like paid family and medical leave insurance and earned paid sick days that provide financial security for individuals who need to miss work to care for themselves or a loved one garnered 76 percent support (19 percent opposition).
The majority of New Hampshire voters (64 percent) also support raising the minimum wage to $12 an hour (34 percent oppose), and 50% support raising the minimum wage to $15/hour (46% oppose).
The economy is top of mind with voters who prefer a candidate with family-friendly workforce policies as part of his/her economic agenda over someone who would reduce regulations on business and let the market determines wages and benefits by a 17-point margin, 54 percent to 37 percent.
“This poll is further evidence that New Hampshire voters want candidates who support 21st century policies that help hardworking families thrive,” said Amanda Sears, director of the New Hampshire Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy. “No matter what party a candidate represents, voters want to know they’ll have an advocate fighting for commonsense policies like paid family and medical leave insurance and investments in child care affordability and quality. This will help keep both our families and our economies healthy for years to come.”
The New Hampshire Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy is working to build a better future for working people and a more stable economy by fighting for smart policies that lift Granite State families up and make communities stronger. The Campaign supports increasing the minimum wage, ensuring all families have access to quality, affordable child care, creating a paid family and medical leave insurance program and providing guaranteed earned, paid sick days. The Campaign and its 21,000 New Hampshire supporters are calling on all candidates, at both the state and national level, to support family-friendly workplace policies.
