Changing policies for earned leave will ensure working people can recover or seek preventive care when they or their children are sick. Currently, too many Granite State workers are forced to choose between a paycheck and caring for themselves or their families when they’re sick.
Here are the facts:
- More than 200,000 New Hampshire workers do not have access to paid sick days—that’s almost 40% of all workers in our state.
- Workers without paid sick days are nearly twice as likely as those with paid sick days to report going to work with contagious illnesses, like the flu or viral infection.
- More than 50% of America’s working mothers are unable to take off from work to care for a sick child, leaving children sick and untreated.
Providing guaranteed earned sick days will help create healthier workplaces for all of us and provide workers with the flexibility they need to care for themselves and their families.
